Israeli Forces Kill Disabled Man in Southern Syria Raid

Israeli infantry forces launched a pre-dawn cross-border unprovoked ground raid into the village of Jamla in southern Syria’s Deraa governorate on Thursday, shooting dead a civilian with physical disabilities.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) and Syrian state television, Israeli troops crossed past the technical border separating the occupied Golan Heights from sovereign Syrian territory during the early hours of Thursday, October 22.Witnesses and local monitoring groups reported that ground elements moved into the village under cover of darkness, cordoning off residential neighbourhoods, raiding properties, and positioning snipers on residential rooftops overlooking the town centre.

During the sweep, snipers opened fire, fatally striking a local resident identified by family and medical personnel as Amin Al-Ghouthani. Community sources confirmed that Al-Ghouthani was a non-combatant living with a physical disability, who was killed near his home. The Israeli military has not issued an official operational briefing on the mission, though security analysts suggest the push aimed to degrade localized surveillance assets or target operatives affiliated with regional militias operating close to the armistice line.

The raid in Jamla comes amidst broader Israeli military operations across the Levant, featuring intense air campaigns in Lebanon and Syria alongside deep ground offensives. Repeated air strikes on Syrian transport links, including strikes that disabled commercial runways in Damascus and Aleppo, have forced the diversion of international flights to Hmeimim airbase, raising diplomatic friction with Moscow over regional airspace violations.

The incursion has further compounded displacement pressures in southern Syria, where local councils across Deraa and Damascus are already struggling to absorb over 400,000 refugees fleeing Israeli air operations in neighbouring Lebanon.
