Gunmen Kill Female Farmer, Injure Two in Barkin Ladi Attack

A female farmer has been shot dead and two others severely injured after suspected armed bandits attacked local agricultural workers on a farm in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The unprovoked assault occurred at approximately 4:00 PM on Saturday, 24 October 2026, at Gwom-Ajang within the Foron District. Eyewitness accounts and community sources confirmed that the victims were harvesting groundnuts on their local plots when heavily armed assailants suddenly stormed the farmland and opened fire directly on the women before escaping into adjacent bushland.

One woman died on the spot from gunshot wounds, whilst two other farmers sustained severe injuries. Local residents quickly mobilised to evacuate the wounded survivors to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.

The attack has drawn swift condemnation across local communities, coming at a vulnerable period when agrarian households are actively working their fields during the peak harvest season. Silas Bitrus, a resident who verified the incident, lamented that defenseless women were targeted in broad daylight.

Condemning the incident, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, described the killings as an unacceptable assault on peaceful rural livelihoods and called on state security forces to track down and apprehend the perpetrators without delay. Spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, had not yet issued an official statement on security deployments or arrests as at Sunday morning.
