Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially aligned with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to secure the 2027 re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This cross-party alignment places him in direct political opposition to his father, who is actively pursuing his own 2027 presidential ambition on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
The political shift was formalised during a press conference held at the All Progressives Congress National Secretariat in Abuja on Saturday, October 31, 2026. During the briefing, Abba unveiled his nationwide political support group, the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO). He explained that his departure from his father’s political camp was a deliberate choice grounded in his personal conviction regarding the current administration’s economic reform programme.
A central pillar of the HBTO strategy is direct structural coordination with Nyesom Wike. The FCT Minister has publicly committed to delivering both the capital territory and Rivers State to the ruling party in the next electoral cycle. Abba confirmed that his organisation will integrate its grassroots mobilisation framework with Wike’s political objectives to consolidate support across key battlegrounds.
Detailing his operational blueprint, Abba pledged substantial logistical assets to the campaign, announcing that the organisation will launch structural mobilisation drives across critical states, specifically targeting the political bases of Adamawa and Rivers. Furthermore, the group committed to rolling out mobile campaign billboards and an initial fleet of 10 campaign buses to facilitate rural outreach and voter education.
Addressing the optics of abandoning his father’s presidential ambition, Abba maintained that his decision was not driven by familial discord but by an independent assessment of national policy. He emphasised that national development supersedes political dynasties, positioning his support for the incumbent administration as a necessary step for the country’s long-term economic stability.
