One Dead, Three Rescued in Fadeyi Lagos Building Collapse

A tragic structural collapse claimed the life of an adult male and left three others injured in the early hours of Friday, 23 October 2026, when a two-storey building under construction caved in at Akinola Street, near Fadeyi Bus Stop along the Ikorodu Road corridor in Lagos.

According to official situational reports, the structure suddenly gave way before dawn, trapping several site labourers who were sleeping or working on the property.

Emergency responders arriving swiftly at the scene launched an immediate search-and-rescue operation, successfully extricating three male survivors alive from the concrete rubble. On-site paramedics administered critical pre-hospital treatment to the injured men before transporting them via ambulances to a nearby medical facility for intensive emergency care.

However, the recovery mission also led to the grim discovery of the lifeless body of an adult male pinned beneath heavy slab debris. The remains were recovered and transferred to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for preservation and identification.

To accelerate the clearance of compacted concrete slabs and reach ground zero, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) deployed heavy-duty recovery gear, including its primary operational excavators.

The multi-agency intervention comprised personnel from the LASEMA Response Team (LRT), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos Rescue Unit (LRU) paramedics, and officers of the Nigeria Police Force. Security personnel cordoned off the immediate perimeter along Akinola Street to control onlookers, prevent secondary structural hazards, and maintain unimpeded access routes for emergency logistics.

While search teams continue to comb the site to confirm whether any additional workers remain unaccounted for, the precise trigger of the catastrophic structural failure remains unconfirmed.

State authorities confirmed that structural engineers from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and relevant materials testing laboratories have launched an exhaustive investigation into the site to evaluate engineering compliance, structural material integrity, and regulatory building approvals.
