Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation Hadin Kai have killed six Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during an intelligence-driven ambush in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The counter-terrorism operation was executed jointly by troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade and operatives of the civilian Hybrid Force at the Targejeri crossing point. Acting on credible intelligence indicating active insurgent movements along the corridor, the combined forces established an ambush and engaged the terrorists in a decisive firefight, eliminating six combatants on the spot.
Following the encounter, troops searched the surrounding bushland and recovered one AK-47 assault rifle, three magazines, and 169 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition abandoned by the fleeing remnants of the insurgent unit.
Confirming the operation in a statement on Sunday, the Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, commended the troops for their operational alertness and tactical synergy with local partner forces.
The successful ambush follows a series of coordinated air and land operations across the North-East theatre, which recently resulted in the neutralisation of more than 100 ISWAP fighters across Borno and Adamawa states as military authorities continue to dismantle insurgent logistics channels across the Lake Chad basin.
